Castel Thun, a day in Val di Non

Castel Thun

One of the most beautiful castles in Trentino, nestled among the apple orchards of Val di Non

Thun Castle is a monumental civil-military building among the most well-preserved in the Trentino region, open to the public after long years of restoration. It was built in the mid-13th century and was the seat of the powerful Thun family, which owned other prestigious residences in the Non and Sole valleys.
The castle sits atop a hill 609 m. above sea level near the village of Vigo di Ton, a beautiful panoramic location from which to take incredible photographs. It is one of the most interesting examples of castle architecture in Trentino, and is one of the rare princely residences in the Alps to still preserve its original furnishings, as well as a rare picture gallery and valuable art collections.
